Carolyn Steffes' Tomato Soup

2 lg potatoes
1 lg onion
1 t sugar
18 oz tomatoes
1 c half and half
1 T oleo (margarine)

Chop onion and dice potatoes. Cook in 16 oz water until tender. Add tomatoes, sugar, pinch of baking soda, salt and pepper and bring to a boil. Heat but DO NOT BOIL. Soup will be chunky.
